I have watched with interest the development on the land at Meadowgate. I am all for providing small units/bungalows given the loss of these properties recently in the area. I however would agree with the conclusion reached by the Parish council that the site was too cramped in width and this is borne out by the end result that does look out of place in a semi-rural enviroment.
The Bungalow was constructed through a hole in the original cobble faced boundary wall, with the original farm building standing throughout on 3 walls (with no safety fencing to the site at any time during construction). I was surprised to see over a matter of days the outbuilding demolished and foundations appear for the new garage.
My objection to the replacement garage would be on 4 accounts.
There is no reason why on the original building being felt to be unsafe that the replacement could not have been constructed as per the original plans approved . If approved a precident would be set for other developments.
As mentioned in other responses the fact that a large area of grass/natural soak-away has been removed for parking/ turning (which does look very tight) for both properties there will be considerable extra surface water which is already an issue on west hill road due to inadequate surface drains and regular blockage with debris.
The original grass verge has now been lost and replaced with a parking space in-front of the garage.
The previous farm building had a gentle sloped roof away from the road which as noted in the original approved plans provided a visual barrier to the new bungallow. The new garage has a low gable towards the road allowing almost full views of the development. The Garage door albeit of high quality is just out of place in the context of the surroundings of West Hill and leads to urbanisation. Any planting will be of necessity low level for visibility splays and as such the scene will not soften with time.
